Assume that \(u\) and \(v\) are two plurisubharmonic (psh) functions defined on a complex manifold \(X\). In this paper the author considers the following conditions: \hskip0.3cm (A) \(u\) and \(v\) have equivalent singularities. \hskip0.3cm (B) (B.1) For every real number \(m>0\), equality of the multiplier ideal sheaves holds: \hskip 1.8 cm\({\mathcal J}(mu)={\mathcal J}(mv)\). \hskip 0.9cm (B.2) \(u\) and \(v\) have the same Lelong number at every point of every proper \hskip1.8cm modifications over \(X\). \hskip0.3cm (C) \(u\) and \(v\) have the same Lelong numbers at every point of \(X\). \vskip0.1cm These conditions compare the singularities of \(u\) and \(v\). In this paper the author gives a nontrivial example showing the inequivalence of \((A)\) and \((B)\). Such an example involves a psh function which does not have analytic singularities. Such a function is provided by a Siu-type singular hermitian metric \(h_{\mathrm{Siu}}\) associated to a line bundle \(L\). In the last section of this paper, it is proved that \(h_{\;mathrm{Siu}}\) has analytic singulariries if and only if the section ring of the line bundle \(L\) is finitely generated. The above results are obtained by using essentially the strong openness theorem \({\mathcal J}_+(\varphi)={\mathcal J}(\varphi)\), for a psh function \(\varphi\).
