    Let \(F\) be a \(p\)-dimensional linear subspace of \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\) and \(H=F^{\perp}\) the \(q\)-dimensional orthogonal complement of \(F\) with respect the standard inner product in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), \(p+q=n\). For any \(\varepsilon >0\), consider the linear transformation \(T_{\varepsilon} : \mathbb{R}^{n} \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}^{n}\) given by \(T_{\varepsilon}(x) = x\), if \(x\in F\) and \(T_{\varepsilon}(x) ={\varepsilon}^{-1}x\), if \(x\in H\). For any bounded set \(S\subset \mathbb{R}^{n}\), define \(n_{\varepsilon}(S) = \#(T_{\varepsilon}(S) \cap \mathbb{Z}^{n})\), for \(\varepsilon > 0\). With a small modification of the proof of a theorem presented in a previous paper [St. Petersbg. Math. J. 23, No. 6, 977--987 (2012); translation from Algebra Anal. 23, No. 6, 80--95 (2011; Zbl 1290.11134)], the authors obtain the following asymptotic formula for \(n_{\varepsilon}(S) \) \[ n_{\varepsilon}(S) \sim \frac{{\varepsilon}^{-q}}{\operatorname{vol}(V/\Gamma)}\sum_{\gamma^{*}\in \Gamma^{*}} \operatorname{vol}_{n-r}(P_{\gamma^{*}} \cap S), \quad \varepsilon \longrightarrow 0, \] where \(\Gamma = \mathbb{Z}\cap F\), \(r\) is the rank of \(\Gamma\), \(r\leq p\), \(V\) is the \(r\)-dimensional subspace of \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\) spanned by the elements of \(\Gamma\), \(\Gamma^{*}=\{\gamma^{*}\in V \mid (\gamma^{*}, \Gamma) \subset \mathbb{Z}\}\) , the dual to the lattice \(\Gamma\) and for \(x\in V\), \(P_{x}\) is the \((n-r)\)-dimensional affine subspace of \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), passing through \(x\) orthogonal to \(V\). In this paper the authors present estimates for the remainder \[ R_{\varepsilon}(S) = n_{\varepsilon}(S) - \frac{{\varepsilon}^{-q}}{\operatorname{vol}(V/\Gamma)}\sum_{\gamma^{*}\in \Gamma^{*}}\operatorname{vol}_{n-r}(P_{\gamma^{*}} \cap S) \] imposing additional assumptions on \(S\). The authors also study averages of this remainder taken over rotated images of \(S\) by a group of orthogonal transformations of \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\). The obtained results are applied to improve the remainder estimate in the adiabatic limit formula for the eigenvalue distribution function of the Laplace operator associated with a bundle-like metric on a compact manifold equipped with a Riemann foliation.
