Recall, that a locally convex topological vector space (lcs) \(X\) has the Baire property if the intersection of countably many dense, open subsets of \(X\) is a dense subset of \(X\). A natural extension of this property yields to the classes of barrelled and Baire-like spaces. A lcs \(E\) is barrelled if every closed absolutely convex and absorbing subset of \(E\) is a neighbourhood of zero of \(E\). A lcs \(E\) is called Baire-like, if given an increasing sequence \((A_n)\) of closed absolutely convex subsets of \(E\) covering \(E\), there is an integer \(n\in {\mathbb N}\) such that \(A_n\) is a neighbourhood of zero. In this mostly survey paper the author indicates in detail various relations which exist among these notions. In particular, he gives some of results concerning the Baire property and the barrelledness of spaces \(C_p(X,E)\) and \(C_c(X,E)\) of all continuous functions on \(X\) into \(E\) endowed with the pointwise and the compact-open topology, respectively. Certain new cases are added. A survey of recent papers on this topic is given. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0930.00093].
