The paper studies the problem of the destruction of invariant circles for Gevrey-\(\alpha\) area-preserving twist maps of the annulus. Several results relating the destruction or preservation of invariant circles to the number theoretic properties of the rotation number, the map smoothness, and the size of the perturbation are already known. This paper considers Gevrey-\(\alpha\) perturbations of the twist map \(x' = x+y\), \(y' = y\) with \(x \in \mathbb S^1\), \(y \in \mathbb R\). Moreover, it considers irrational rotation numbers \(\omega\) characterized as being \(\mu\)-approximated if there exists \(C>0\) and infinitely many \(p_n \in \mathbb Z\), \(q_n \in \mathbb N\) such that \(| q_n \omega - p_n |<C q_n^{-1-\mu}\). Then the main result of the paper is that an invariant circle with a \(\mu\)-approximated rotation number \(\omega\) can be destroyed by an arbitrarily small Gevrey-\(\alpha\) perturbation of the twist map in the \(C^r\) topology with \(r< 2 + 2(1-\alpha^{-1})(1+\mu)\). The proof is based on variational arguments.
