The authors have considered the question of best approximation of the one-sided type by an infinite-dimensional space comprising the blending functions of order \((2m,2n)\). In case of the multivariate problems in general there is no such one-sided approximation by means of Hermite interpolation with respect to appropriate point sets; however, it holds if we use a smaller function space. Such best approximants are carefully characterized along with a discussion of the uniqueness also. Five theorems, two corollaries, two propositions, one lemma and two remarks are given. Proofs to the theorems are also provided. Fourteen references and some concluding remarks are included. This work on approximation from below is interesting and worth extending further. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0931.00036].
