The author understands the quantum group SU\(_q(2)\), \(q\in (0,1)\), as a Woronowicz algebra in the sense of \textit{T. Masuda} and \textit{Y. Nakagami} [Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 30, No. 5, 799-850 (1994; Zbl 0839.46055)]. Namely, the quantum group SU\(_q(2)\) is a pair (with some structures) of a von Neumann algebra \(\mathcal A\) generated by four elements \(x, u, \nu, y\) and a comultiplication \(\delta: {\mathcal A}\to {\mathcal A}\otimes {\mathcal A}\) such that \[ \begin{gathered} ux=qxu, \nu x=qx\nu, y\nu=q\nu y, u\nu=\nu u,\\ xy-q^{-1}u\nu=yx-qu\nu=1, x^*=y, u^*=-q^{-1}\nu,\\ \delta(w_{ij}^{(1/2)})=\sum_k w_{ik}^{(1/2)} \otimes w_{kj}^{(1/2)}. \end{gathered} \] Here \(w^{(1/2)}=[w_{ij}^{(1/2)}]:= \left[\begin{smallmatrix} x&u\\ \nu& y \end{smallmatrix}\right]\). An injective normal \(*\)-homomorphism \(\Gamma\) from a von Neumann algebra \(\mathcal M\) into \({\mathcal M}\otimes{\mathcal A}\) is called an action of the quantum group SU\(_q(2)\) on \(\mathcal M\) if it satisfies \[ (\Gamma\otimes\text{Id})\circ\Gamma=(\text{Id}\otimes\delta)\circ \Gamma. \] An action \(\Gamma\) is said to be minimal if (1) \(({\mathcal M}^\Gamma)' \cap{\mathcal M}={\mathbb{C}}1\); \ (2) the crossed-product \({\mathcal M}\rtimes_\Gamma \text{SU}_q(2)\) is a factor; or the action \(\Gamma\) is faithful. In the paper [J. Math. Soc. Japan 51, No. 2, 449-461 (1999; Zbl 0928.46049)] the author introduced a new construction of actions based on the free product construction, and gave examples of minimal actions of compact quantum groups. In the paper under review the author determines the type of the fixed-point algebra under an action of the quantum group SU\(_q(2)\) constructed there, and then gives its application to subfactor theory, which is a part of his attempt to construct an irreductible subfactor in the free group factor \(L({\mathbb{F}}_\infty)\) with an arbitrary Jones index greather than 4.
