    The paper deals with the stability of the Drygas functional equation \[ f(x+y)+f(x-y)=2f(x)+f(y)+f(-y), \] where \(f:X \to Y\), \(X\) is a nonempty subset of a normed space and \(Y\) is a Banach space. Several authors investigated the stability of this equation on a whole vector space. Here, the stability is obtained on a restricted domain. The main result is given by the following theorem. Theorem. Let \(X\) be a subset with \(0\) of a normed space, \(Y\) a Banach space and \(c \geq 0\). Assume that \(p>0\) and a function \(f:X \to Y\) satisfies \[ \| f(x+y)+f(x-y)-2f(x)-f(y)-f(-y)\| \leq c(\| x\| ^p+\| y\| ^p) \] for all \(x, y \in X\) such that \(x+y, x-y \in X\). {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] If \(p>2\) and \(-x,x/2 \in X\) for all \(x \in X\), then there exists a function \(g:X \to Y\) satisfying the Drygas equation on \(X\) such that \[ \| f(x)-g(x)\| \leq \frac{2c}{2^p-4}\| x\|^p, \quad x \in X. \] \item[(2)] If \(0<p<1\) and \(-x,x/2,2x \in X\) for all \(x \in X\), then there exists a function \(g:X \to Y\) satisfying the Drygas equation on \(X\) such that \[ \| f(x)-g(x)\| \leq \frac{2c}{2-2^p}\| x\|^p, \quad x \in X. \] \item[(3)] If \(1<p<2\) and \(-x,x/2,2x \in X\) for all \(x \in X\), then there exists a function \(g:X \to Y\) satisfying the Drygas equation on \(X\) such that \[ \| f(x)-g(x)\| \leq \Big(\frac{2c}{4-2^p}+\frac{2c}{2^p-2}\Big)\| x\|^p, \quad x \in X. \] \end{itemize}} Moreover, \(g\) is the unique solution of the Drygas equation such that \(\| f(x)-g(x)\| \leq M\| x\|^p\) for all \(x \in X\) and some \(M \geq 0\). \vskip 2mm The proof is obtained by using the fixed point method.
