In this paper the authors study the existence and asymptotic behavior of positive solutions for equations \[ -\Delta u = |x|^\alpha u^{p_\alpha} +\epsilon |x|^\beta u \] with zero boundary conditions in bounded, smooth domains \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\), which contain the origin. Here \(N\geq 4\), \(p_\alpha = \frac{N+2+2\alpha}{N-2}\), and \(\alpha, \beta \geq 0\). The Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction technique (on non-standard functional spaces, since the problem is super-critical) is employed to prove that under certain conditions on \(\alpha\), and for \(\beta \leq N-4\), for \(\epsilon\) small the problem admits solutions \(u_\epsilon\), and their asymptotic behavior is studied. By a refined Pohozaev identity argument (in the spirit of \textit{H. Brezis} and \textit{L. Nirenberg} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 36, 437--477 (1983; Zbl 0541.35029)]) it is also shown that in the cases \(\alpha = \beta > N-4\) and \(\Omega\) a ball centered at the origin, the problem admits no radial solutions.
