Let \(\psi(x)\) denote the logarithmic derivative of the Euler gamma function \(\Gamma(x)\). The authors show (Theorem 3.1) that, under some additional assumptions, the truncation of the asymptotic expansion of \(\psi(x)\) in terms of the inverse powers of \(x-\lambda\), \(\lambda\in[0,1]\), is a lower or an upper bound of \(\psi(x)\), for \(x>\lambda\). This result enables the authors to find conditions under which the truncation of the asymptotic expansion of the Euler gamma function in terms of the inverse powers of \(x-\lambda\), \(\lambda\in[0,1]\), differs from \(\Gamma(x)\) by a function that is strictly completely monotonic on \((\lambda,\infty)\) (Theorem 1.2).
