One of the most important problems in knot theory is to determine all incompressible surfaces in a given knot complement. Many results regarding the existence of closed incompressible surfaces were obtained by Lyon, Oertel, Li, to mention some. In the article under review the author constructs infinitely many prime knots which admit essential meridional surfaces in their complement having two boundary components for any positive genus \(g\). The knots found by the author are examples of prime knots that can be decomposed along surfaces of any positive genus. These knots are also examples of knots having closed essential surfaces of arbitrarily high genus, namely one of the swallow-follow surfaces obtained from the meridional surface is also essential and of high genus.
