In this work, the authors studied one-dimensional Allen-Cahn equation which models moving interface problems and proposed a numerical strategy to calculate the boundary flux function while minimizing the number of interphases formed. First, the authors derived an estimation of the number of interphases, and this is followed by a discretization of the system in space by using finite differences. The optimization process is described next and this part of the work also includes a description of the fully discretized problem to be solved at each iteration. Numerical results including the calculation of the optimal boundary flux function for different values of the initial state, final time, and interface thickness are presented in the next section. The last part of the work includes further perspectives including possible extensions to 2D or 3D problems and monitoring the number interphases by the interface thickness between the phases.
