The authors use Porter's approach ``to derive some properties of higher order Whitehead products, similar to those ones for triple products obtained by Hardie''. The main theorem extends Hardie's Theorem 4.3 in [\textit{K. A. Hardie}, J. Lond. Math. Soc. 35, 452--464 (1960; Zbl 0096.37505)] to higher order Whitehead products. In the same paper Hardie raises the question of non-triviality of triple spherical products. The authors show that, in Toda's notation, the triple product \([\eta_4, \eta_4 \circ \eta_5, 2 \iota_4] \subseteq \pi_{14}(S^4)\) is indeed non-trivial. The authors recall the definitions and results required, including on the relative generalised Whitehead product, the generalised separation element and higher order generalised Whitehead products. The paper concludes with some calculations for spheres and projective spaces.
