\textit{Z.-Q. Chen} and \textit{M. Fukushima} have introduced the notion of darning of holes for symmetric Hunt processes by Dirichlet forms [Symmetric Markov processes, time change, and boundary theory. Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press (2012; Zbl 1253.60002)] (see also [\textit{Z.-Q. Chen}, Topics on recent developments in the theory of Markov processes. Lectures at RIMS, Kyoto University (2012)]). Here, the author's approach (without the use of Dirichlet forms) has been inspired from a talk by Zhen-Qing Chen on ``Brownian motion on spaces with varying dimensions'', which took place at the University of Bielefeld in 2014. The author studies the darning of compacts which are not thin at any of their points, in a potential-theoretic framework, using either harmonic kernels (or functions) or in terms of a diffusion.
