Let \(K\) be a convex body in the plane and denote its area (resp. perimeter) by \(A_K\) (resp. \(L_K\)). The inradius (resp. circumradius) is denoted by \(r\) (resp. \(R\)). The classical Bonnesen inequality states \[ L_K^2-4\pi A_K\geq \pi^2(R-r)^2, \] that is, it gives a lower bound for the isoperimetric deficit \(L_K^2-4\pi A_K\). The isoperimetric deficit can be obtained as the discriminant of the Steiner polynomial: \(A_{K+tB}=A_K+tL_K+A_Bt^2,\) where \(B\) denotes the two-dimensional unit disc. The disc \(B\) can be replaced by another convex body \(W\) and the Wulff-Steiner polynomial \(A_{K+tB}=A_K+tL_{K,W}+A_Wt^2\) considered. Here \(L_{K,W}=\int_{\partial K}h_Wds\) where \(h_W\) denotes the support function of \(W\) and \(ds\) the arc length parameter of the boundary of \(K\), \(\partial K\). The authors give several lower and upper bounds for the discriminant \(L_{K,W}^2-4A_KA_W\) of the Wulff-Steiner polynomial. The bounds that they obtain are functions depending on \(A_W\), \(A_K\), \(R_W\), \(r_{W}\) and \(L_{K,W}\). Here \(r_W\) and \(R_W\) denote the inradius and circumradius of \(K\) with respect to \(W\). The obtained inequalities generalize some of the known Bonnesen-style inequalities. Equality cases are studied and hold, in all given inequalities, if \(K\) and \(W\) are homothetics.
