The authors study the Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto model for two competing species with triangular cross-diffusion, \[ \begin{aligned} -\Delta[d_1+a_{11}u & +a_{11}u]=(1-u-a_1v)v,\quad x\in\Omega,\\ & -d_2\Delta v=(1-a_2u-v)v,\quad x\in\Omega,\\ & \frac{\partial u}{\partial\nu}=\frac{\partial v}{\partial\nu}=0,\quad x\in\partial\Omega,\end{aligned} \] and determine explicit parameter ranges of parameters within which the model exclusively possesses constant steady state solutions. Firstly, when \(a_{11}=0\), (\(u\) is not influenced by any self-diffusion), and secondly, when \(a_{11}\geq 0\), and suitable smallness of cross-diffusion, they establish two sufficient criteria for nonexistence of non-constant solutions.
