    Under consideration is the following Chern-Simons-Schrödinger system \[ \begin{aligned} \Delta u+ V(x)u + A_{0}u +\sum_{j=1}^{2}A_{j}^{2}u =|u|^{p-2}u,\quad \partial_{x_{1}}A_{0} = A_{2}|u|^{2}, \\\partial_{x_{2}}A_{0} =-A_{1}|u|^{2},\quad \partial_{x_{1}}A_{2}-\partial_{x_{2}}A_{1} = -\frac{1}{2}u^{2}, \quad\partial_{x_{1}}A_{1} + \partial_{x_{2}}A_{2} = 0,\quad x\in {\mathbb R}^{2}, \end{aligned} \] where \(V(x)\in C^{1}({\mathbb R}^{2})\) is an external potential, \(0 < v_{0} \leq \inf_{x\in {\mathbb R}^{2}}V(x) < \lim \inf_{x\to \infty} V(x)\), and \((\nabla V,x)\geq 0\) for almost all \(x\). Under these conditions it is proven that a nontrivial solution \(u\in W_{2}^{1}({\mathbb R}^{2})\) to this system exists. The same result is also obtained if \(V(x)=\omega\equiv const\). The proof relies on the concentration compactness principle.
