A two-dimensional two-component plasma in a box is studied here. Especially a large deviation principle is the aim of the research. As a solution, a variational representation of the free energy is proposed. It is shown, too, that the macroscopic empirical measure of either the positive or the negative charges converges to a uniform measure. An appendix written by Wei Wu (Courant Institute, New York University) is joined to the paper and discusses the applications to the subcritical complex multiplicative chaos. The reviewer believes that the paper is overwhelming in higher mathematics and the description of the physical consequences and applications are limited only to the desire of ``mathematical physicists''. The paper does not mention why this two-dimensional approach is useful in a ``box'', so the practical uses of the results and the importance of the outcome are not sufficiently exhibited.
