The paper under review studies the trace decategorification functor (or the 0th Hochschild-Mitchell homology) of the categorified quantum \(\mathfrak{sl}_2\). In [Adv. Math. 225, No. 6, 3327--3424 (2010; Zbl 1219.17012)], the third author introduced two versions of \(2\)-additive categories which categorifies the quantum \(\mathfrak{sl}_2\), denoted by \(\dot{\mathcal{U}}\) and \(\mathcal U ^*\). The first version \(\dot{\mathcal{U}}\) categorifies the idempotent integral form of the quantum group \(\mathbf{U}_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)\) introduced by \textit{A. A. Beilinson} et al. [Duke Math. J. 61, No. 2, 655--677 (1990; Zbl 0713.17012)]. The authors prove that the trace of \(\dot{\mathcal{U}}\) is isomorphic to the split Grothendieck group \(K_0(\dot{\mathcal{U}})\), and the higher Hochschild-Mitchell homology of \(\dot{\mathcal{U}}\) is zero. For the second version \(\mathcal U ^*\), the authors prove that the associated trace is isomorphic to the current algebra of \(\mathfrak{sl}_2\).
