Let us start by quoting the abstract: ``Suppose that \(G\) is a finite group and \(H\) is a subgroup of \(G\). \(H\) is said to be an \(ss\)-quasinormal subgroup of \(G\) if there is a subgroup \(B\) of \(G\) such that \(G=HB\) and \(H\) permutes with every Sylow subgroup of \(B\); \(H\) is said to be weakly \(s\)-permutably embedded in \(G\) if there are a subnormal subgroup \(T\) of \(G\) and an \(s\)-permutably embedded subgroup \(H_{se}\) of \(G\) contained in \(H\) such that \(G=HT\) and \(H\cap T\leq H_{se}\). We fix in every non-cyclic Sylow subgroup \(P\) of \(G\) some subgroup \(D\) satisfying \(1<|D|<|P|\) and study the structure of \(G\) under the assumption that every subgroup \(H\) of \(P\) with \(|H|=|D|\) is either \(ss\)-quasinormal or weakly \(s\)-permutably embedded in \(G\). Some recent results are generalized and unified.'' A lot of work has been done in this paper in order to extend earlier work by \textit{X. Wei} and the second author [Sci. China, Math. 54, No. 3, 449--456 (2011; Zbl 1219.20022)] and \textit{Y. Li} et al. [Commun. Algebra 37, No. 3, 1086--1097 (2009; Zbl 1177.20036)]. The result of the authors runs as follows: Theorem. Let \({\mathcal F}\) be a saturated formation containing \(A\), the class of all supersolvable groups, and \(G\), a group with \(E\) as a normal subgroup of \(G\) such that \(G/E\in{\mathcal F}\). Suppose that every noncyclic Sylow subgroup \(P\) of \(F^*(E)\) has a subgroup \(D\) such that \(1<|D|<|P|\) and every subgroup \(H\) of \(P\) with order \(|H|=|D|\) or with order \(2|D|\) (if \(P\) is a nonabelian 2-group and \(|P:D|>2\)) is either \(ss\)-quasinormal or weakly \(s\)-permutably embedded in \(G\), where \(F^*(E)\) is the generalized Fitting subgroup of \(G\). Then \(G\in{\mathcal F}\).
