Let \(X\) be a complex Banach space and let \(B(X)\) be the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators \(T\) on \(X\). Let \(k(T)\) be the set of such (possibly infinite) convex combinations of powers of \(T\). Consider some operator means associated to an operator \(T\in B(X)\). More precisely, given a sequence \(\{t_n\}_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\) of probabilities on \(\mathbb{N}\), where each term \(t_n\) is a sequence \(\{t_{nj}\}_{j\in\mathbb{N}}\) satisfying \(\sum_{j\geq 0} t_{nj}= 1\) for any \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), consider the sequence \(\{T_n\}_n\) in the norm closed convex hull of the powers of \(T\) of the form \[ T_n= \sum_{j\geq 0} t_{nj} T^j. \] The aim of the present paper is to obtain nonstandard versions of the well-known Esterle-Katznelson-Tzafriri theorem [\textit{J. Esterle}, Lect. Notes Math. 975, 66--162 (1983; Zbl 0536.46041); \textit{Y. Katznelson} and \textit{L. Tzafriri}, J. Funct. Anal. 68, 313--328 (1986; Zbl 0611.47005)] for sequences in \(k(T)\) as well as to investigate some conditions of convergence for \(\{T_n\}\) by the uniformly peripheral boundedness of the backward iterate \(\{T^{(-1)}_n\}\) (similar to the uniform Kreiss boundedness). By using in both cases a regularity condition on \(\{T_n\}\) (or its adjoint) meaning the strong convergence to zero of the sequence \(\{TT_n-T_{n+n_0}\}\) for some nonnegative integer \(n_0\), which is more general than that of ergodicity, the authors manage to prove some ergodic properties for the general sequences in the above-mentioned directions in the closed convex hull of the orbit of some operators in the Banach space. Furthermore, the authors manage to obtain applications concerning uniformly Kreiss-bounded operators as well as other ergodic results for the binomial means and some operators means related to the Cesàro means.
