    The study of norm-attaining operators has its roots in the year 1961, when \textit{E. Bishop} and \textit{R. R. Phelps} proved in [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 67, 97--98 (1961; Zbl 0098.07905)] that the space of all norm-attaining operators \(NA(X,Y)\) between Banach spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) is dense in the space of all bounded linear operators \(L(X,Y)\) whenever \(Y\) is one-dimensional. Bishop and Phelps raised the question for which Banach spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) is \(NA(X,Y)\) dense in \(L(X,Y)\)? Two years later, \textit{J. Lindenstrauss} proved in [Isr. J. Math. 1, 139--148 (1963; Zbl 0127.06704)] that the reflexivity of the space \(X\) is a sufficient condition and he provided examples that, in general, the answer to the aforementioned question is negative. In [J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 11, 2780--2799 (2008; Zbl 1152.46006)], \textit{M. D. Acosta} et al. introduced the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property for operators for a couple \((X,Y)\) of Banach spaces, which is a vector-valued analog of the Bollobás strengthening of the original Bishop-Phelps result. They also introduced the approximate hyperplane series property (AHSp) and proved that this property characterizes the spaces \(Y\) for which the couple \((\ell_1, Y)\) has the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property. In the paper under review, the authors prove that the AHSp is stable under finite \(\ell_p\)-sums for every \(p\in [1,\infty]\). However, this property is not stable under infinite \(\ell_p\)-sums. The authors apply their main results to obtain some interesting consequences: {\parindent=0.7cm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] Every Banach space with dimension at least 2 can be equivalently renormed to have the AHSp and failing the property \(\beta\) of Lindenstrauss; \item[(2)] Every infinite-dimensional Banach space admitting a strictly convex equivalent norm also admits an equivalent strictly convex renorming failing the AHSp. \end{itemize}}
