In this work, it is proved that the Harnack inequality and Hölder estimate do not hold for solutions of second order mixed divergence-nondivergence type elliptic equations and second order ``mixed'' parabolic equations. So the authors show that the very known Harnack inequalites and Hölder continuity results for the solutions of elliptic and parabolic equations, either in divergence or nondivergence form are not preserved when the equations are in mixed divergence-nondivergence structure, by depending on the properties of the coefficients. They make use homogenization theory in their proof as a technique of approximation to solutions of differential equations with periodic coefficients by solutions of equations with constant coefficients.
