Let \((X,\rho)\) be a metric space with a Borel measure \(\mu\) such that \(\mu(X)<\infty\). Supppose that there exist positive constants \(d\), \(c_1\) and \(c_2\) such that for any open balls \(B(x,r)\subseteq X\) we have \(c_1r^d\leq \mu(B(x,r))\leq c_2r^d\). Then it is proved that there exist positive constants \(c_3\) and \(c_4\) such that for every sufficiently large \(N\), there is a partition of \(X\) into \(N\) regions of equal measure \(\mu(X)/N\), each contained in a ball of radius \(c_3N^{-1/d}\) and containing a ball of radius \(c_4N^{-1/d}\). Some applications to numerical integration on fractals are discussed.
