Let \({\mathcal{O}}\) be a reduced operad in the category of symmetric spectra and let \(I\) be an \({\mathcal{O}}\)-algebra. Then \(I\) can be viewed as analogous to the augmentation ideal of an augmented algebra and it admits a canonical decreasing \({\mathcal{O}}\)-algebra filtration \(I\overset{\sim}\leftarrow I^1\leftarrow I^2\leftarrow I^3\leftarrow\cdots\). This filtration satisfies properties that are analogous to powers of an ideal in a ring. In this paper the authors consider the structure of such constructions. Let \(R\) be a commutative \(S\)-algebra and let \(\text{Alg}_{\mathcal{O}}(R)\) denote the category of \({\mathcal{O}}\)-algebras in \(R\)-modules. Let \(M\) be a reduced \({\mathcal{O}}\)-bimodule and let \(I\in \text{Alg}_{\mathcal{O}}(R)\). The authors first observe that the circle product \(M\circ_{\mathcal{O}}I\in \text{Alg}_{\mathcal{O}}(R)\) as well and then use the bar construction to study derived versions of \(M\circ_{\mathcal{O}}I\). They let \(M\) run through a decreasing \({\mathcal{O}}\)-bimodule filtration of \({\mathcal{O}}\) and obtain the augmentation ideal filtration \(I\overset{\sim}\leftarrow I^1\leftarrow I^2\leftarrow I^3\leftarrow\cdots\) as above. The multiplication \({\mathcal{O}}\circ {\mathcal{O}}\to {\mathcal{O}}\) induces pairings among the \({\mathcal{O}}\)-bimodule filtration of \({\mathcal{O}}\) which then induce natural transformations \((I^n)^m\to I^{nm}\) satisfying suitable properties. The constructions in this paper behave well with respect to change of rings, which is useful regarding applications. The first author uses this property as an essential tool to study generalized Hurewicz maps for infinite loop spaces, see [\textit{N. Kuhn}, ``Adams filtration and generalized Hurewicz maps for infinite loop spaces'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1403.7501}].
