The purpose of this paper is to revisit the harmonic analysis aspect of the fundamental papers of \textit{E. J. Candès, J. K. Romberg} and \textit{T. Tao} [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 52, No. 2, 489--509 (2006; Zbl 1231.94017)] and \textit{E. J. Candès, J. K. Romberg} and \textit{T. Tao} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 59, No. 8, 1207--1223 (2006; Zbl 1098.94009)] in the field of compressed sensing to show how basic results can be obtained by purely harmonic analysis methods, and how some classical or new problems in harmonic analysis are related to compressive sensing (cf. \textit{J.-P. Kahane} [Ann. Inst. Fourier 63, No. 6, 2081--2096 (2013; Zbl 1306.42006)].
