The closure of Rademacher functions in Banach function spaces defines a subspace that is isomorphic to \( \ell^2\) in many classical Banach function spaces. However, this is not always the case. A~classical result of \textit{V. A. Rodin} and \textit{E. M. Semyonov} [Analysis Math. 1, 207--222 (1975; Zbl 0315.46031)] for the case of a symmetric space \(X\) states that the Rademacher functions are equivalent to the unit vector basis of \(\ell^2\) if and only if the closure of \( L^\infty[0, 1]\) in the Zygmund space \(\mathrm{Exp } L^2[0, 1]\) is contained in \(X\). In this paper, the closed span of Rademacher functions is analyzed, in the case that we replace the symmetric space \(X\) by a weighted space \(X(w)\) on \([0, 1]\) and \(w\) is a positive measurable function. The properties of the Rademacher multiplier space of a symmetric space are used, which provides a description of the weights \(w\) for which the Rademacher orthogonal projection is bounded in the weighted space. In particular, it is shown that, in contrast to the symmetric spaces, the fact that the embedding of the closed linear hull of the Rademacher functions in \(\mathrm{Exp }L^2[0, 1]\) is included in \(X(w)\) is a stronger condition, in general, than equivalence of the sequence of Rademacher functions in \(X(w)\) to the unit vector basis in \(\ell^2\).
