Thanks to the works of Langlands, Shahidi et al., the theory of Eisenstein series provides a direct link between classical automorphic forms and number theory. The counterpart for affine Kac-Moody groups over $\mathbb{R}$ has been developed by Garland in a long series of papers; in particular, Garland established the absolute convergence and meromorphic continuation for such Eisenstein series. In contrast, the case of hyperbolic Kac-Moody groups is hitherto largely unexplored. \par The main aim of the paper is to construct Eisenstein series for hyperbolic Kac-Moody groups of rank $2$ over $\mathbb{R}$. Such groups form the first family beyond the affine case addressed by Garland. More precisely, one begins with the rank $2$ Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ associated with the Cartan matrix \[ \begin{pmatrix} 2 & -m \\ -m & 2 \end{pmatrix},\qquad m \geq 3, \] takes an integrable highest weight $\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbb{C}}$-module $V$, and constructs the hyperbolic Kac-Moody group $G_{\mathbb{R}}$ as well as its $\mathbb{Z}$-form $G_{\mathbb{Z}}$ from these data. See Section 3 for a review of this construction. The first main Theorem 1.1 asserts that given a quasi-character $\nu$ on a Borel subgroup, the corresponding Eisenstein series $E_\nu$ converges almost everywhere when $\nu$ satisfies Godement's criterion. This is achieved by computing constant terms of $E_\nu$. \par The second main Theorem 6.2 computes the Fourier series of such Eisenstein series $E_\nu$. It turns out that the Fourier coefficients $E_{\nu, \psi}$ vanishes for generic $\psi$. For non-generic $\psi$, the Fourier coefficients are given as an infinite sum (over the Weyl group) of the Whittaker coefficients of the usual Eisenstein series on $\mathrm{SL}_2$, multiplied by a certain product of completed Riemann $\zeta$-functions and their inverses. \par The third main Theorem 1.2 asserts the entirety in $s$ of the Eisenstein seres $E_{s, f}$ induced from a cusp form on $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})/\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$. \par The authors also mention an upcoming generalization of these results to general Kac-Moody groups.
