The authors of this paper investigate certain generic properties of Hamiltonian systems. They consider a closed, connected symplectic manifold \(M\) with a smooth Riemannian structure and an associated set of Hamiltonian functions in \(C^2(M,\mathbb{R})\). The authors' main result is the following: There is a residual set \({\mathcal R}\) in \(C^2(M,\mathbb{R})\) such that for any \(H_0\in{\mathcal R}\) and a generic energy \(e\) in \(H_0(M)\), there is a \(C^2\)-neighborhood \(V\) of \(H_0\) and a residual subset \({\mathcal R}_{H_0}\) of \(V\) such that for any \(H\in{\mathcal R}_{H_0}\), the Hamiltonian level \((H,e)\) is topological mixing. Furthermore, for \(C^2\)-generic Hamiltonians, the non-topologically mixing energy levels have zero Lebesgue measure. A related result is provided for transitivity. It says that there is a residual set \(\widetilde{\mathcal R}\) in \(C^2(M,\mathbb{R})\) and a residual subset \(E\subset\mathbb{R}\) such that for any \(H\in\widetilde{\mathcal R}\) and any energy \(e\in E\), the compact energy hypersurface \({\mathcal E}_{H,e}\) is either empty or transitive. To prove these results, the authors rely on the generic nonexistence of resonances for Hamiltonians as well as the Connecting Lemma for pseudo-orbits developed by \textit{M.-C. Arnaud} et al. [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 25, No. 5, 1401--1436 (2005; Zbl 1084.37017)].
