Let \(X\) be a locally convex topological vector space (so that the topology is generated by a family \(F\) of semi-norms). On an interval \([a,b]\), the norm of a tagged partition (= longest subinterval) \(P\) is denoted \(\|P\|\). For \(f:[a,b]\to X\), the Riemann sum of \(f\) corresponding to \(P\) is \(S(f,P)\). \(f\) is Riemann-integrable if there is \(x\in X\) such that \(\lim_{\|P\|\to 0} p(S(f,P)-x)=0\) for every \(p\in F\). For what comes, recall that a Schur space is a Banach space where all weakly convergent sequences are norm convergent, while a Grothendieck space is a space such that all weak-star convergent sequences in the dual are weakly convergent. \(\ell_1\) and \(\ell_\infty\) are the classical examples of a Schur space and a Grothendieck space, respectively. When \(X\) is a Banach space, every norm-continuous \(f:[a,b]\to X\) is norm-Riemann-integrable. Every weakly continuous \(f\) is norm-Riemann-integrable exactly when \(X\) has the Schur property, while there exists no infinite-dimensional Banach space where all weak-star continuous \(f:[a,b]\to X^\ast\) are norm-Riemann-integrable. These results were proved in [\textit{C.-H. Wang} and \textit{Z.-H. Yang}, Rocky Mt. J. Math. 30, No. 1, 393--400 (2000; Zbl 0986.46028)] and [\textit{V. M. Kadets}, Quaest. Math. 17, No. 1, 33--35 (1994; Zbl 0808.46058)], respectively. The paper under review investigates when all weak-star continuous \(f:[a,b]\to X^\ast\) are weakly Riemann-integrable. The pleasant answer is that this happens exactly when \(X\) is a Grothendieck space.
