\textit{B. Schweizer} and \textit{J. Smítal} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 344, No. 2, 737--754 (1994; Zbl 0812.58062)] introduced the concepts of distributional chaos, spectrum and weak spectrum in the context of continuous maps of the interval, and showed that in this case the spectrum and the weak spectrum comprise finite sets generated by points in the basic set. Here this result is generalized from interval maps to continuous maps on finite trees, and an example of a continuous map on a dendroid with infinite spectrum is found.
