A nonnegative, integrable weight function \(w\) on \([-1,\,1]\) is called doubling if there is an \(L>0\) such that for every \(\delta > 0\) and \(a\in [-1,\,1]\), \[ \int_{a-2\delta}^{a+2\delta} w(t)\,dt \leq L\,\int_{a-\delta}^{a+\delta} w(t)\,dt\,, \] where \(w(t) := 0\) for \(t\notin [-1,\,1]\). A Chebyshev-type quadrature formula of degree \(n\) is a quadrature rule which has equal weights \(w_1 = \dots = w_N\) and fulfills the condition \[ \int_{-1}^1 w(t)\,p(t)\,dt = \sum_{j=1}^N w_j\,p(t_j) \] for every polynomial \(p\) of degree at most \(n\), where \(-1 \leq t_1 \leq \dots \leq t_N \leq 1\). In this interesting paper, the authors estimate the minimal number \(N_w(n)\) of nodes in a Chebyshev-type quadrature rule of degree \(n\) for a doubling weight function \(w\). An analogous result is presented for the Chebyshev-type trigonometric quadrature of degree \(n\) for a doubling \(2\pi\)-periodic weight function. Some remarks on Chebyshev-type quadratures for nondoubling weight functions are given. The new estimate of \(N_w(n)\) extends many former results on Chebyshev-type quadrature.
