The purpose of this paper is to study the existence of local and global solutions of the energy-critical de-focusing NLS equation \[ iu_t +\triangle u-a | x|^{-2}u- | u|^{4}u=0, (t,x)\in\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^3. \] First, the associated linear problem for \(a\geq -\frac 14\) is studied by introducing a positive definite quadratic form. By a solution to (1) we mean a strong solution, that is, a function which obeys an integral version of (1). For \(a\geq - \frac 14+ \frac {1}{25}\), solutions to (1) exist, at least locally in time. The main theorem states global well-posedness of the corresponding problem and asymptotic behavior of solutions as \(t\to\pm\infty\). The proofs use contradiction, heat kernel bounds, fractional product rule, Mikhlin multipliers, refined Fatou lemma, Palais-Smale condition, Duhamel formula, Fourier inversion, Rellich-Kondrashov theorem, sharp Hardy, Bernstein, Hölder and Strichartz inequalities, dominated convergence theorem, monotone convergence theorem, fundamental theorem of calculus and Sobolev embedding theorem. Finally, the focusing case is studied by introducing the ground state soliton and Euler's Beta integral together with sharp Sobolev embedding.
