In this paper, dedicated to Ireneo Peral, the authors study the Dirichlet problem for an equation involving the 1-Laplacian and a total variation term as reaction. The authors prove a strong multiplicity result, i.e., they show that for any positive Radon measure concentrated in a set away from the boundary and singular with respect to a certain capacity, there exists an unbounded solution, and measures supported on disjoint sets generate different solutions. This result requires to overcome several difficulties: it is not known any kind of Cole-Hopf change of the unknown and it is necessary to extend the Anzellotti theory on Radon measures.
