The authors consider an interesting nonlinear initial and boundary value problem posed on an interval, in the context of semiconductors. The relevant equation (DLSS) has been introduced by Derrida, Lebowitz, Speer and Spohn, as an interface fluctuations model. The solution is approximated numerically by a fully discrete Lagrangian scheme that produces strictly positive and mass conserving approximations. Convergence of fully discrete solutions is proven even for discontinuous initial condition, while the proposed scheme is implemented by numerical experiments.
