Supersymmetric grand unified theories. From quarks to strings via SUSY GUTs (Q526382)

In the book the author presents his own point of view on supersymmetric SUSY Grand Unified Theories (GUT). The book is divided into three sections. In the first section the author discusses SUSY GUTs in four space-time dimensions: review of the Standard Model; minimal SUSY Standard Model; soft SUSY breaking mechanism; SU(5) and SO(10) GUTs; SUSY GUT; SUSY flavor problem; fermion masses, baryogenesis, gravitino problem, dark matter and predictions and/or constraints coming from present day experimental results. In section two the author spends some time discussing so-called Orbifold GUTs: SO(10) SUSY GUT in 5D; an \(E_6\) orbifold in 5D; SUSY breaking in 5D; SUSY GUT in 6D etc. In the third section, it is shown how to embed orbifold GUTs into the E8 \( \bigotimes\) E8 heterotic string in 10D space-time: MSSM from the heterotic string compactification on \(T^6/Z_6\), gauge coupling unification and proton decay, string theory realization of \(Z^R_4\) symmetry SUSY breaking and moduli stabilization; other string constructions.
