Let \(F\) be an algebraic number field of degree n and \(d_{F}\) it's discriminant. For \(\alpha \in F\) we put \(T_{2}(\alpha) = \sum_{1}^{n} |\alpha^{j}|^{2}\), where the \(\alpha^{j}\) are the different conjugates of \(\alpha\). Usually the regulator bounds for an algebraic number field \(F\) depend on \(n\) and on \(d_{F}\); but for real quadratic number fields with discriminant of the same size the values of the corresponding regulators can differ substantially. Hence, it is important to have lower regulator bounds depending on other field criteria as the size of small \(T_{2}\)-values of the integers of \(F\). In this paper, the authors make a first attempt to resolve this question [\textit{M. Pohst} and \textit{H. Zassenhaus}, Algorithmic Algebraic Number Theory. Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications, 30. Cambridge etc.: Cambridge University Press (1989; Zbl 0685.12001), theorem 6.17] and they try to correct the errors which it contained. They obtain a new result which can be seen as a correct version of the first attempt and which possesses a considerable interest for the computations.
