The author determines the Green function for the Dirac operator on an \(n\)-dimensional Riemannian manifold, \(n\geq 3\), subject to two types of boundary conditions, namely the chiral bag condition, and the MIT bag condition. These results lead him to two applications: from the former one, an inequality on a spin conformal invariant leads -- in some cases -- to a solution of the Yamabe problem on manifolds with boundary; while the latter one yields a simple proof of the positive mass conjecture using the approach of \textit{J. F. Escobar} [J. Differ. Geom. 35, No.~1, 21--84 (1992; Zbl 0771.53017)]. Contents include: Introduction (giving a comprehensive overview of the topic); Green function for the Dirac operator under the chiral bag condition; The MIT Green function; and References (thirty items).
