The article deals with solutions of the following functional equation \[ f(x) = F(f(u(x)),f(v(x)))\tag{1} \] with known \(F\), \(u\), \(v\), and unknown \(f(x)\). The authors present a condition under which continuous solutions of equation (1) are constant. Conditions under which equation (1) has a solution defined on some interval and depending on an arbitrarily given initial function (the sense of the latter statement seems to be vague) are presented. In the end of the article some special cases are considered, in particular, \[ f(x) = \frac1c \bigg(f\bigg(\frac{x}2\bigg) + f\bigg(\frac{x + 1}2\bigg)\bigg), \quad f(x) = f\bigg(\frac{x}{2(2 - x)}\bigg)f\bigg(\frac1{2 - x}\bigg). \]
