Irregular Abelian semigroups with weakly amenable semigroup algebra (Q535239)

The main result of this paper is the construction of a commutative semigroup \(S\) which is not the union of its subgroups and for which the semigroup algebra \(A = \ell^1(S)\) is weakly amenable. The latter concept means that every bounded derivation from \(A\) into its dual module is inner. This example gives a negative answer to a problem asked by \textit{T. D. Blackmore} [Semigroup Forum 55, No.~2, 196--205 (1997; Zbl 0878.43006)].
