The aim of this paper is to depart from the traditional goal of finding sufficient conditions for an iterated function system (IFS) to admit a unique attracting invariant measure. The authors study cases where an IFS may admit more than one invariant measure and aim to identify the physically relevant ones, i.e., invariant measures for which the ergodic theorem holds on a set of positive measure of the ambient phase space called SRB. The authors study the Markov processes generated by iterated function systems. The constituent maps of the IFS are monotonic transformations of the interval. They obtain an upper bound on the number of SRB measures for the IFS. Then, when all the constituent maps have common fixed points at 0 and 1, theorems are given to analyze properties of the ergodic invariant measures. Moreover, some of the results are applied to assert market games.
