In Euclidean space \({\mathbb R}^3\) with the flat metric or the upper-half space model \({\mathbb R}^3_+\) of hyperbolic space with the hyperbolic metric, a translation surface is a surface that can be expressed as \(z = f(x)+g(y)\) or \(y = f(x) + g(z)\) for some smooth functions \(f\) and \(g\). Due to Scherk, it is well-known that besides the planes, the only minimal translation surfaces in \({\mathbb R}^3\) are the Scherk surfaces. In this paper, the author proves a similar result in the hyperbolic space \({\mathbb R}^3_+\). He shows that the only minimal translation surfaces in the hyperbolic space \({\mathbb R}^3_+\) are totally geodesic planes.
