This paper generalizes to any one dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring two sets of invariants (so called micro-invariants and Apery invariants) defined earlier by Elias, and by Barucci and Fröberg, respectively, and it relates/compares these with the one introduced by the authors for tangent cones of one dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local rings. The main result is a characterization of Cohen-Macaulayness of the tangent cone in terms of these three sets of invariants. Namely, the tangent cone is Cohen-Macaulay exactly when any two (and thus all) of the three sets coincide. Some explicit computations are given at the end of the article for numerical semigroups and for local rings with small embedding dimension or multiplicity.
