Let \(L\) be a uniformly convex complex Banach space, \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{C}\) be a domain, \(f:\Omega\to \mathfrak{B}(L)\) be a holomorphic operator function and \(M_f=\sup\{\|f(z)\|:z\in\Omega\}\). The author shows that, if \(\|f(z_0)\|=M_f\) for some \(z_0\in\Omega\), then the coefficients of the nonconstant terms in the power series expansion of \(f\) around \(z_0\) are not invertible. This result implies that the norm of the resolvent of an operator on a complex uniformly convex space cannot have a local maximum.
