This book presents an interesting survey concerning symmetries of domains in \(\mathbb C^n\) and certain types of related complex manifolds approached from the point of view of invariant metrics. After an introductory chapter, the second chapter is on Riemann surfaces and their automorphisms. Chapter 3 (resp. 4) is devoted to the Bergman kernel and metric (resp. applications of these concepts to the geometry of the spaces in question). Chapter 5 deals with how to realize a given compact Lie group as the automorphism group of a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain with smooth boundary in some \(\mathbb C^n\), and the proofs of \textit{R. Saerens} and \textit{W. R. Zame} [``The isometry groups of manifolds and the automorphism groups of domains'', Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 301, 413--429 (1987; Zbl 0621.32025)] and \textit{E. Bedford} and \textit{J. Dadok} [``Bounded domains with prescribed group of automorphisms'', Comment. Math. Helv. 62, 561--572 (1987; Zbl 0647.32027)] are given. Manifolds where there are large isotropy groups are considered in Chapter 6. Chapter 7 looks at other invariant metrics, including the Carathéodory, Kobayashi, and Wu metrics. Reinhardt domains are dealt with in Chapter 8, and Chapters 9 and 10 present scaling methods.
