As one of the most active topics in matrix theory as well as in operator algebras, preserver problems concern the characterization of mappings on matrix spaces or operator algebras that leave certain subsets, functions, relations, etc., invariant. The main purpose of this paper is to characterize numerical radius preservers on nest algebras. Recall that a linear map \(\phi \) of operator algebras is said to be a numerical radius preserver if, for all operators \(A\) in the domain algebra, \[ w(\phi (A))=w(A), \] where \(w(A)\) stands for the numerical radius of operator \(A\). In this very interesting paper, the author obtains the following characterization of numerical radius preservers on nest algebras in Hilbert space. Suppose that \(\mathcal {N}\) is a nest of a Hilbert space \(\mathcal {H}\). Let \(\phi :\text{Alg}\,\mathcal {N}\to \text{Alg}\,\mathcal {N}\) be a surjective linear map such that \(w(\phi (A))=w(A)\) for all \(A\in \text{Alg}\,\mathcal {N}\). Then \(\phi \) is of one of the following forms: (1) There exist a unitary \(U\in B(\mathcal {H})\) and a complex number \(\xi \) of modulus one such that \(\phi (A)=\xi UAU^*\) for all \(A\in \text{Alg}\,\mathcal {N}\). (2) There exist a unitary \(U\in B(\mathcal {H})\), a conjugation \(J\) on \(\mathcal {H}\), and a complex number \(\xi \) of modulus one such that \(\phi (A)=\xi UJA^*JU^*\) for all \(A\in \text{Alg}\,\mathcal {N}\).
