The authors consider the Ott-Sudan-Ostrovskiy equations: \[ u_t +uu_{xx}-|\alpha |u_{xxx}+{\mathcal R}^{1/2} u_x =0,\;\;\;\;t>0,\;x>0. \] Here \(\alpha\in\mathbb{C}\), and \({\mathcal R}^{\alpha} \phi\) is a modified Riesz operator: \[ {\mathcal R}^{\alpha} \phi (x,t)=\dfrac{1}{2\Gamma (\alpha )\sin (\pi\alpha /2)} \int_{0}^{+\infty}\dfrac{\phi (y,t)}{|x-y|^{1-\alpha}}dy. \] This is a generalization of the KdV equation and also of some other physical equations, proposed by Ott, Sudan and Ostrovskiy. For this equation they pose an initial condition \(u(x,0)=u_0 (x)\) and boundary conditions \(u(0,t)=u_{x}(0,t)=0\). The authors prove that if the initial value \(u_0\) belongs to a weighted Lebesgue space on the half line \(\mathbb{R}_+\) and has a small norm in it, then there exists a unique solution to the above initial-boundary problem globaly in time. For the proof, one extracts the linear part \(u_t -|\alpha |u_{xxx}+{\mathcal R}^{1/2} u_x\) of the above equation, and studies the corresponding Green operator. Then one can solve the original nonlinear problem by a contraction mapping theory. They also study an asymptotic theory for large time.
