The author introduces the notion of a smooth module: a locally convex (left) module \(X\) over a locally convex algebra \(A\) is smooth if the exists a fundamental system \((U_\lambda)_{\lambda\in J}\) (resp. \((V_\lambda)_{\lambda\in J}\)) of absolutely convex neighborhoods of \(0\) in \(X\) (resp. \(A\)) such that \(V_\lambda U_\lambda\subset U_\lambda\) forall \(\lambda\in J\); \(m\)-convex algebras, normed modules over normed algebras, Hilbert modules over locally \(C^*\)-algebras, and certain classical function spaces over function algebras are examples of smooth modules. She proves that for a complete locally convex module over an \(m\)-convex algebra to be smooth, it is necessary and sufficient that it be topologically isomorphic to a reduced inverse limit of Banach modules over Banach algebras. And, as a consequence of results about barreled locally convex modules over \(m\)-convex algebras, she shows that a Fréchet module over a Fréchet \(m\)-convex algebra is smooth.
