We recall that a Sasaki manifold is an odd dimensional Riemannian manifold \((M^{2m+1}, g)\) such that the associated cone \((C(M),g^C) = (\mathbb R_{> 0} \times M, d r^2 + r^2 g)\) is a Kähler manifold (\(r\) = standard coordinate of \(\mathbb R_{> 0}\)). Identify \(M\) with the submanifold \(\{r = 1\}\) of \(C(M)\), set \(\xi = J \frac{\partial}{\partial r}\), and denote by \(\omega^T\) and \(\rho^T\) the Kähler and the Ricci form, respectively, of the metric induced on the (locally defined) orbit space of the flow of \(\xi\) on \(M\). The manifold \((M, g)\) is called Sasaki \(\eta\)-Einstein when \(\rho^T = \kappa \omega^T\) for some constant \(\kappa\) and Sasaki-Einstein when it is \(\eta\)-Einstein and the corresponding constant \(\kappa\) is positive. The author generalizes the Calabi ansatz to the case of Sasaki manifolds, considering Kähler forms \(\omega = p^* \omega^T + d d^c f(t)\) on the cone \(C(M)\) of a Sasaki manifold, where \(t = \log r\), \(f(t)\) is a function of one variable and \(p: C(M) \longrightarrow M\) is the projection along the radial flow. He proves the following. Theorem. Let \((M, g)\) be a compact Sasaki \(\eta\)-Einstein manifold. Then: {\parindent7.5mm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] if \(\kappa > 0\) (i.e., \((M,g)\) is Sasaki-Einstein), there exists a complete scalar-flat Kähler metric on \(C(M)\); \item[(ii)] if \(\kappa < 0\), there exists \(c_o < 0\) and a complete Kähler metric on \(C(M)\) with constant scalar curvature \(c_o\); \item[(iii)] if we denote by \(c_o\) the constant in (ii) when \(\kappa < 0\) and \(0\) otherwise, then, for any \(c < c_o\), there exists \(\gamma > 0\) such that the submanifold \(\widetilde M = \{0 < r < \gamma\} \subset C(M)\) admits a complete Kähler metric of constant scalar curvature \(c\); when \(\kappa < 0\) and \(c = (m+1) \kappa\), such metric is Kähler-Einstein. \end{itemize}} From this and the existence of numerous examples of compact Sasaki \(\eta\)-Einstein manifolds, many new complete scalar-flat Kähler manifolds and negative Kähler-Einstein manifolds are produced. The result implies also that there exists a complete scalar-flat Kähler metric on the total space of the canonical line bundle \(K_N\) minus the zero section of a toric Fano manifold \(N\).
