      The authors prove the local existence of a unique solution to the initial-boundary value problem for the equation \[ u_{tt}-M(\| \nabla u\| _2^2)\Delta u+\int _0^{t}g(t-s)\Delta u(s)\, ds+h(u_t)=f(u), \] satisfying the Dirichlet boundary condition. If \(M(s)=1+bs^{\gamma }\), \(h(s)=as(| s| ^{\nu -2}+| s| ^{m-2})\) and \(f(s)=s| s| ^{p-2}\), non-existence is discussed and estimates of the lifespan of the solution is given.
