The problem as to whether a nonwandering point of a given vector field can be approximated by periodic points has been considered in the literature. In particular, D. Anosov proved a closing lemma which gives a positive answer for Anosov flows. This result motivates the question as to whether the conclusion of the Anosov closing lemma can be extended to more general vector fields. One possibility for such an extension is the sectional-Anosov flows, namely, vector fields with a sectional-hyperbolic structure on the maximal invariant set. However, the Anosov closing lemma is false for sectional-Anosov flows since there are ones for which the periodic points and singularities are not dense in the recurrent set. In [the author, ``A singular-hyperbolic closing lemma'', Mich. Math. J., 56, No. 1, 29--53 (2008; Zbl 1155.37022)], the following sectional-Anosov closing lemma was obtained: All recurrent points of a sectional-Anosov vector field on a compact 3-manifold can be approximated by periodic points or by points for which the \(\omega\)-limit set is a singularity. This paper improves the last lemma to nonwandering points. Theorem. All nonwandering points of a sectional-Anosov vector field on a compact 3-manifold can be approximated by periodic points or by points for which the \(\omega\)-limit set is a singularity. An example of a sectional-Anosov vector field on a compact 3-manifold for which the recurrent points are not dense in the nonwandering set is described.
